As part of measuring walkability, Councils and other traffic planners need to assess pedestrian satisfaction with footpath quality.
One way of doing this is by running a Community Street Review. This is a tool developed by Living Streets Aotearoa, and further developed and supported by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), see www.levelofservice.com
A Community Street review is an assessment of the walkability of a route from the point of view of the users. A group of people walk the route and use a simple rating technique to identify problem areas and potential improvements. Living Streets used this tool, in part, to carry out a Community Street review for the Wellington City Council in November 2007, see the files attached below.
