Yellow Feet - use to discourage parking on footpaths

Yellow feet

Join in our efforts to make sure footpaths are for pedestrians, not for parking cars.

The issue

Vehicles blocking footpaths are not just an annoyance, they create a safety issue for pedestrians. Sometimes a polite reminder is all it takes to encourage people to keep footpaths clear for pedestrians.

This letter about parking on footpaths describes the problem well

Taking action

Our distinctive Yellow Feet leaflets can be placed on the windscreens of vehicles parked on footpaths.

They say - ‘Please don’t park on the footpath - it puts others at risk. You could be towed or fined. Children could get hit if forced onto the road. Wheelchairs and pushchairs can’t get past. Vision-impaired people could injure themselves.”

You can also report the issue to your local council.

Or you can lobby your council to fund compliance work around not parking on footpaths.

How to order Yellow Feet leaflets

If you would like some Yellow Feet leafelts, please email: accounts [at] livingstreets.org.nz.

  • Councils and other organisations can order print runs with their logo included.
  • Or find a sponsor and we can get them printed for you with your sponsor's name.
  • Yellow Feet are available free to members and individuals at local meetings or we can send small numbers to members direct. Larger numbers by arrangement.

A demo showing how parking on footpaths impacts pedestrians

Ellen Blake visited New Plymouth to encourage people to establish a local branch of Living Streets Aotearoa in Taranaki.  As part of the pitch, she set up a demo of parking on the footpath and the impact on pedestrians. The action, and the inconvenience, was captured by Bryan Vickery Media Taranaki and posted on Facebook.
