The elections are over - but we'll leave the responses here for a little longer.
This is a combined Living Streets Aotearoa and Cycling Advocates' Network project.
It is an email survey of candidates standing for election to selected local bodies around New Zealand. It indicates the level of understanding of, and attitudes towards, walking and cycling issues. It also offered an opportunity to raise awareness among candidates of walking and cycling issues.
The Councils selected were chosen largely because Living Streets Aotearoa and/or the Cycling Advocates' Network have local groups in these areas. Email addresses for a significant minority of candidates were unavailable, and possibly some candidates couldn't reply. So the survey is not comprehensive. Nor can it be taken as indicating support or otherwise for individual candidates: many candidates supportive of walking and cycling may not have replied.
Some candidates are standing for more than one local body; however, these candidates are listed only once. Look at the top the page for your region and click on the name of any candidate that you are interested in or just scroll through the page.
DHB candidates may be listed with a associated town or city or in the regional list.
