Carfree day 22 September 2009
Car free day is celebrated worldwide on 22nd September. It’s an opportunity to demonstrate how pleasant life could be if there were fewer vehicles on the roads, and more people feeling safe to walk and cycle. In Amsterdam a couple of years ago on Car Free Day entire streets were closed to traffic, and people dined on long tables down the middle of the street. There are lots of good ideas on the

Stepping Up
Stepping up is Living Streets Aotearoa’s programme of training.
We offer training courses for walking advocates and members of Living Streets' Walking Action Groups, as well as customised courses for organisations, community groups or businesses.
For walking advocates we offer training in making submissions, media and communication, strategic planning, delivering events and activities and motivating members.
Street Cred
At the end of July walking advocates from twelve Walking Action Groups around the country, and from three areas keen to set up their own groups, met to exchange experiences and good ideas, and to learn new skills at the training weekend known as Street Cred.

Brooklyn Community Street Audit
Submitted by administrator on Wed, 22/07/2009 - 08:58A community street audit involves a group of people walking a route and uses a simple rating technique to identify problem areas and potential improvements. Living Streets used this tool, in part, to carry out a Community Street review in Brooklyn for the Wellington City Council in November 2007.
