World Environment Day 5th June - Foot Art
World Environment Day 5th June
Living Streets Aotearoa urge people to get back on their feet and reduce emissions. Walking, jogging or running are a great way to get around - especially where there are terrific shortcuts through parks, lovely views and good local shops and cafes.
Community street reviews and audits
Community Street Reviews were developed by Living Streets Aotearoa, and further developed and supported by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA). They are an ideal method for assessing pedestrian satisfaction and the quality of the walking environment.
See the method here on the NZTA site.
Walk 2 Work Day 2009
Walk2Work 2009 saw thousands of kiwi’s don comfortable shoes, leave their cars at home and take to the streets – either as first time walkers or as regular walk2workers.
Living Streets Wellington is supporting World Car-Free Day on September 22nd 2008
This annual global event, organised by the World Car-free Network, encourages people in more than 1,5000 cities to change to socially and environmentally sustainable methods of transport.
Persuasive evidence about the storm and drought impacts of Climate Change, caused partly by rising greenhouse gases from transport, coupled with the obesity epidemic, make this day even more relevant in 2008.

Wellington’s weather smiled on between 250 and 300 people who took time out from their walk to work to fuel up on hot cross buns and coffee at Frank Kitts Park this morning.
Carol Comber of Living Streets Wellington, who co-ordinated Wellington's Walk 2 Work Day, said "It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the food and standing in the sunshine chatting to fellow commuters. Today was a wonderful celebration and a real reminder that walking is a great way to get to work."
