The Durie Hill pedestrian tunnel, located opposite the Whanganui City Bridge, leads to the historic Durie Hill Elevator. Built in 1919, it is the only earthbound elevator in New Zealand and one of only two in the world.

KiwiWalks are an initiative of the Hillary Commission in partnership with Regional Sports Trusts and Local Authorities. The aim is to encourage people to undertake healthy regular exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
