The Conclusion Walkway project was an upgrade by Porirua City Counicl of an old 2.5km long service access track in an under-utilised steep reserve.

The completed works have made the track significantly more accessible for users with varying levels of fitness and mobility, all year round.

Jim’s Track and Fladgate Nature Trail, Russell, Tapeka Point Ratepayers Group - a 2022 Golden Foot Walking Awards winner

A community-led and crowd-funded project to make a safer walk between Tapeka and Russell was awarded a Golden Foot Walking Award in 2022.

“Jim’s track” and the “Fladgate Nature Trail” was a joint project between Tapeka Ratepayers and the Fladgate families. The previous track formed by local resident Jim Mowat was extended over the Fladgate property in 2019 in a community-led project.

Companion Walking Service, Wellington Age Concern - a 2022 Golden Foot Walking Awards winner

Wellington Age Concern developed a Companion Walking Service which was awarded a Golden Foot Walking Award in 2022.

The walking service matches fully trained and police checked volunteers with older people who may be experiencing reduced mobility, mild cognitive impairment, or a need for companionship.

They go for a weekly walk together. Many clients have underlying health conditions that restrict their mobility, and so the walking service helps keep them moving, and improves their mental health by getting outside and going for a walk.
